Birds in flight present a technical challenge in that there are two types of motion going on. A forward motion as they get from place to place and the wing motion that's moving at a different speed. That, combined with the challenges of fast-moving wild subjects who won't cooperate, plus lighting, weather, bugs, snakes and alligators, makes these shots a challenge to obtain. This is especially true when you don't want standard, full-color nature photography, but you want the form, function and the moment—I call it 'nature's ballet'—to outshine everything else.
