Bicycling magazine spread. "I wanted to avoid anything resembling Chinese lettering—thinking it was too cliché, but when I received the photography, shot in Solvang, California, the mountains and mist reminded me of Chinese landscape art. So I based the title design on ancient calligraphic scrolls. I discovered, in my research, that some Chinese characters are comprised of several single characters. This inspired me to create Chinese-like symbols for each word, using their English letters."
