Back Home. “Imana Truyers was born from a Hutu father and a Tutsi mother in Rwanda right before the Rwandan genocide broke out in 1994. Through a series of fortuitous events, she was able to make it out of the country alive and was adopted by a Belgian family right before chaos ensued. I photographed her as she returned to Rwanda for the second time to see her family she left behind as a baby.”
