"After finishing an assignment for Land Rover, I was driving along the shoreline of Lake Michigan on my way to Chicago's O'Hare airport when I spotted this pier. Conditions were favorable to photograph it using a long exposure to render a surreal look to the crashing surf and rapidly moving clouds. I determined that a forced twenty-minute exposure would allow the clouds to traverse the width of the image. Two minutes into the exposure, a large wave broke and crept over the sand creating a sensuous line that provided an unexpected but essential compositional element. Apple chose this and another of my images for desktop picture choices made available on OS X."
