If you’ve ever wondered what the moon looks like right at this moment, a new live-streaming website allows you to check out Earth’s only natural satellite. To promote the launch of Vodafone’s convergent product, ONE, the Madrid–based ad agency Sra. Rushmore wanted to prove how today’s technology is more than 1,000 times more powerful than when Apollo 11 landed on the lunar surface. So the agency decided to take everyone to the moon. After recruiting astronomers to coordinate telescopes, the team was able to stream live video from the moon 24/7. They encountered not only technological issues, but also astronomical hurdles as interstellar weather conditions became unpredictable. But the team resolved this obstacle by switching between telescopes around the world. The website focuses constantly on the moon, with its craggy, milky surface always apparent on the site’s background display. Users can explore the geography of the moon and point the live stream to specific landmarks. Five videos and 40 images allow users to better understand lunar lingo, including interviews with astronaut Alan Bean, the fourth man to walk on the moon. In the first two weeks of the campaign, the website received more than 100,000 visits and an international following that pleasantly surprised the client.
