“Artist Simon Starling reenvisioned At the Hawk’s Well, a play by William Butler Yeats, in the style of Noh theater for a multimedia installation at the Japan Society in New York in 2016. Rather than capturing just one moment from the dance, I wanted to show a sequence over time. The colors of the stage and costumes were pretty dark, so being able to exaggerate the motion was helpful in bringing some light into the piece.”
