“From our series of designed objects that engage with critical meanings. Ocean Vessel brings awareness to the cruelty and the pollution caused by the fishing industry. The object’s shapes refer to the fishing net floats that drift around the oceans with ghost nets still attached to them, capturing and killing animals that come too close to them or washing up on beaches, where UV light breaks it apart into toxic microplastics that reenter the ocean. More than 12 million tons of plastic end up in our seas every year, and fishing gear accounts for roughly 10 percent of ocean pollution debris with somewhere between 500,000 and 1 million tons of fishing gear discarded or lost in the ocean every year.”
