“This is a personal project that’s really special to me, and sometimes personal projects can feel strange to share. This project is a conversation about the lack of Native representation in our imagery. Alicia was my first subject for this project, and I was so grateful that she opened herself up to be a part of it. Though you wouldn’t know it from the quietness of these photos, the shoot was insane. While driving my crew to the location, my car broke down in a tunnel on the freeway. It was too dangerous for a tow truck, so they had to get a plow to push my car out of the tunnel and off the freeway. By the time we started shooting, the sun was almost gone. We made it happen. Just as it was supposed to.”
