"Two year-old Valencia Hawkins photographed for the Dallas Morning News. For a story on second-generation lead poisoning in several families in West Dallas, I spent a couple of months with Valencia and her family trying to show how the effects of lead exposure had been passed down to the victim's children. Valencia suffers from severe developmental disorders and has the mental capacity of a six-month-old baby. She often experienced violent mood swings. Here she does physical therapy with her mother at a local park."
