Duration: Shooting professionally for four years.
Staff: Just me and my wonderful rep, Marianne Campbell.
Education: Graduated from Brigham Young University. Spent the first three years as a pre-med student studying physics and chemistry, then completely switched gears and spent another three finishing a BFA in photography. Essentially I received one degree for the price of two. Abandoning a pragmatic career path was one of the best decisions of my life. The real education came later while working full-time as a retoucher/assistant with Andy Anderson, who has continued to be a great friend and mentor.
Cultural Influences: I haven’t had a TV for well over a decade now, so I’m often a little behind on pop-culture. Probably most influenced by classic literature, music and my time spent traveling and living abroad.
Environment: Wherever the job or project takes me, but I prefer working outside. My home office is heated with a wood stove, extremely well-organized and located less than ten minutes from some of the best skiing and climbing on the planet.
Philosophy: Work hard. Play hard. Stay inspired.
Originality, to Montreal-based illustrator Aaron McConomy, is the art of concealing sources.
