These Chicago designers do it all for love. The married couple—Kim Knoll and Kyle Eertmoed—formed their design studio, Knoed Creative, in 2011 so they could work with the clients they care about most, namely, small businesses and startups that find them through word of mouth. “Many of our clients become good friends—it’s not uncommon for us to grab dinner or drinks with them on a Saturday night and not talk about work.” This down-to-earth approach shows in their designs with a Midwestern, human touch and tender typography. As “full stack” designers in a shop of only two, the pair has tackled everything from discovery to production, as well as light copywriting and photography. Clients include their neighborhood sausage deli, a minimalist furniture store, a craft brewery and a chic online art gallery and shop based in Toronto. Inside the studio, which is in a former toy factory, Knoed keeps it simple: “We want to do good work for good people. We care about both, and every decision we make rides on that principle.”
