“Arthur Kopelman, founder and president of the Coastal Research Education Society of Long Island and professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology, has been monitoring the local whale and seal populations long enough that he knows some of the regulars by name. On and off for a year, I traveled with Dr. Kopenman on a boat, learning about his research. This project started out as my senior thesis, and I eventually pitched it to the New York Times, where it accompanied John Leland’s article ‘Arthur Kopelman Works the Other Hamptons.’”
