Location: Brooklyn, New York.
Duration: Two and half years.
Hometown: Antelope, California.
Education: A BFA in photography from Parsons The New School.
Big break: Just before graduating from Parsons in 2008, a professor helped me get an interview with editors at the New York Times Magazine. I went to the meeting with my book, awkwardly answered some questions and realized I should have brought promo cards. I brought promo cards when I returned to pick up my book, but I didn't follow up because I thought I had blown it. Four years later, in 2012, one of the editors e-mails me from out of the blue, asking what I was up to. I got my act together this time, met with magazine staff and landed my first big editorial job. Always follow up!
Influences: David Lynch, comedy duo Tim and Eric, mistakes, and a hell of a lot of music.
Work environment: Hot lights, cold lights, color and a mess of cords I like to trip over.
Technique: All I can say is that the grey card terrifies me.
Aspirations: To work in advertising and do at least three car campaigns before I die. Fashion campaigns would also be fun. When I get enough extra cash, I’ll do some kind of Gregory Crewdson thing with Mount Rushmore as the backdrop.
