"The poster for the Duke Ellington tribute was a result of two needs being met by the collaboration," said designer Dara Turransky. "First, the Everett Symphony needed a more professional look for their posters in order to draw more interest back into the organization, and second, I personally wanted to contribute something back to my local community by donating my time and resources. My concept for the poster was to draw directly from the music itself. Jazz is very much a musical composition filled with texture, layers and color. Improvisation is the brush which this music is composed with and brings with it an artist's style. I wanted to visually compose a poster that combined all of these elements."
