David Gray "The One I Love" 3:32. "The lyrics of David Gray's 'The One I Love' describe a mortally wounded soldier who, instead of mourning in his final moments, decides to focus on thinking of the one he loves. To convey the essence of this profound moment between life and death, Motion Theory developed a newvisual technique that creates a multiple exposure out of two scenes in motion. The technique, which was captured entirely in-camera, works as an extension of the song, helping to effortlessly combine memories, dreams, and reality into an emotional narrative. Motion Theory also used the technique to separate a single moment into its component parts, then recombine the parts in a new way. For instance, the victims of a tragic car crash were filmed at the scene of the accident, seemingly unaware that anything has happened, while the overturned and smashed car was filmed in an empty field. The images were later recombined in a multiple exposure, creating an eerily frozen moment that jumbles time, causality exists on the timeless edge of life and death. The other sequences, which include childhood memories, everyday tragedies and life's best moments, range from bittersweet to hopeful, ultimately pointing a deeply humanistic view of love, and a well-lived life."
