Illustration from A Stowaway on Noah's Ark. "'Disappointed, Achbar watched as those who had been chosen formed a column two by two.' Achbar, the little mouse who was not chosen, sadly looks on as the long column of creatures that might survive the coming deluge board the gigantic ark. I tried to covey in this picture the magnitude of this extraordinary gathering of creatures by viewing the scene from the mouse's perspective. Up close the creatures tower over Achbar, then get smaller as they move across the distant great plain toward the great ark looming on the horizon framed by the turbulent, darkening sky. In every picture the importance of the relationship of size, between the ark and the creatures both inside the ark or outside, was a constant consideration in successfully illustrating this epic story."
